Gorbals Recycles Project is a community-led social economic enterprise made up of local people. Our main aims are to raise awareness about environmental issues by providing opportunities for people to reuse, reduce and recycle their domestic waste. We will do so by providing a range of services and creating training and volunteering placements for local residents.

The charity grew out of a community meeting in 2002 and provides a way for residents to recycle and buy cheap clothing and household goods. A Lottery grant of £320,000 made the project possible. Part of the grant went towards a £250,000 facelift and the centre opened in the summer of 2008 on 18 July at 11am.

Why Recycle? - Each UK household produces over one tonne of rubbish every year. Most of this is disposed of in the country's landfill sites, which are filling up rapidly. But the environmental impacts of waste are not limited to issues of disposal. We are wasting the earth's natural resources, many of which are finite and will one day run out. In addition, the processing and transport of materials uses energy and creates pollution. Our challenge is to change attitudes and habits.

How you can help - We collect clothing, toys, small household goods, console games, CDs and DVDs. Donated goods can be dropped off at the Number 10 or alternatively contact us at the number provided and we will collect. All money from donated goods goes back in to the Project to improve services and support the free bicycle repair.
